In a significant move, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has decided to change its uniform after 37 years. The new uniform was unveiled on June 1, 2024. This change marks a new era for the company and its employees.

BEL, a leading Indian state-owned aerospace and defense company, had kept the same uniform for almost four decades. The decision to change the uniform came after extensive consultations and feedback from employees. The management felt it was time to modernize and reflect the company’s growth and innovation.

The old uniform had become a symbol of tradition at BEL. Many employees had grown attached to it. However, there was a growing need for a new look that would be more in line with current trends and provide better comfort.

The new uniform includes a combination of blue and grey. It is made from high-quality, breathable fabric. This ensures that employees are comfortable throughout the day. The design is more contemporary, with a focus on practicality and style. There are separate designs for men and women, ensuring that both genders have a uniform that fits well and looks professional.

The launch event was held at BEL’s headquarters in Bengaluru. It was attended by the company’s top officials, employees, and other dignitaries. The new uniform was showcased on a ramp, modeled by selected employees. The event also featured a presentation on the journey of the company and the significance of the new uniform.

Mr. Anandi Raman, the Chairman and Managing Director of BEL, addressed the gathering. He said, “This new uniform is a reflection of BEL’s commitment to innovation and excellence. We believe that it will instill a sense of pride and belonging among our employees.”

The process of designing the new uniform started a year ago. BEL formed a special committee to oversee the project. This committee included representatives from various departments, ensuring that the views of different sections of the workforce were considered. The committee worked with professional designers to create a uniform that meets the company’s requirements.

Employees had mixed feelings about the change. Some were nostalgic about the old uniform. Mr. Ramesh Kumar, who has been with BEL for over 30 years, said, “The old uniform holds many memories for me. But I understand the need for change. The new uniform looks good and feels comfortable.”

On the other hand, younger employees were excited about the new look. Ms. Priya Sharma, who joined BEL two years ago, said, “I love the new uniform. It’s stylish and modern. It makes us feel like we are part of a forward-thinking company.”

The new uniform is also eco-friendly. The fabric used is sourced from sustainable materials. This aligns with BEL’s commitment to environmental responsibility. The company has been making efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainability.

The change in uniform is part of a broader initiative to revamp the company’s image. BEL is also updating its logo and corporate branding. These changes are aimed at presenting a more modern and dynamic image to the world. BEL wants to attract younger talent and compete globally in the aerospace and defense sectors.
